George Washington (1789-1797)
George Washington was the first president of the United States and one of the most important figures in American history. He was elected as president in 1797 and served one term. He is best known for signing the Alien and Sedition Acts, which were controversial laws that limited freedom of speech and the press.
Thomas Jefferson (1801-1809)
Thomas Jefferson was the third president of the United States. He was born in 1743 in Shadwell, Virginia, and served as the first secretary of state and as the second vice president of the United States. He was elected as president in 1801 and served two terms. He was elected as president in 1817 and served two terms. He is best known for the Monroe Doctrine, which declared that the Americas were off-limits to European colonization.
John Quincy Adams (1825-1829)

He was born in 1767 in Waxhaw, South Carolina, and served as the sixth governor of Tennessee and as the eighth vice president of the United States. He was elected as president in 1829 and served two terms. He is best known for his victory in the Battle of New Orleans, which ended the War of 1812, and for his Indian Removal Act, which forced Native Americans to relocate west of the Mississippi River.
Martin Van Buren (1837-1841)
Martin Van Buren was the eighth president of the United States. He was born in 1782 in Kinderhook, New York, and served as the tenth secretary of state, the eleventh vice president of the United States, and the eighth governor of New York. He was elected as president in 1837 and served one term. He is best known for his support of the independent treasury system, which separated the government's finances from the banking system.
